Judaism
Judaism was founded in 1800 B.C. when Abraham made a covenant with God. Followers of Judaism (Jews) read the Old Testament (Talmud) and the Torah. They believe that Abraham and Moses are prophets. They follow the ten commandments. Jews are still waiting for the Messiah to come. They worship in synagogues and consider the Wailing Wall to be a holy place. Some holidays are Passover, Hanukkah, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur. Christianity Christianity was founded by Jesus and grew out of Judaism during Roman Rule in Palestine. Followers of Christianity (Christians) follow the Bible, which consists of the Old and the New Testament. They believed that Jesus would resurrect from the dead. Jesus was also known as the Messiah, Christ, and Son of God. After word spread Christianity was formed. They worship in churches and consider the Church of Sepulcher to be a holy place. Some holidays are Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, and Easter. Islam Islam was founded in the 7th century by Muhammad when the angel Gabriel gave him a message to spread Allah's word. Followers of Islam (Muslims) follow the Quran, which contains the Old and New Testament (and is written in Arabic). Although they do not believe in a Messiah, they view Muhammad, Abraham, and Moses as prophets. Muslims worship in mosques, and consider the Dome of the Rock and Ka'aba to be holy places. Islam is divided into two sects ~ Sunni and Shia Muslims. |
